Module 3: Challenging Consultations

The focus of this workshop is to review core communication skills using the Calgary-Cambridge Guide, focusing especially on skills for challenging conversations. Participants are encouraged to consider how these skills can be used and adapted for delivering bad news, disclosure of an error and responding to strong emotions. 

Staff attending this module are encouraged to complete Modules 1 and 2 in advance of taking this workshop.

• Review core consultation skills using the Calgary-Cambridge Guide;
• Consider how these skills need to be applied with greater depth and intensity in challenging consultations;
• Describe and demonstrate key skills needed for challenging consultations in a safe setting;
• Reflect on and identify key skills you wish to practice to enhance your skills for challenging consultations.
